Kramer VS Kramer - Tina Nezic (Post 1)

In the beginning, it was obvious that Ted had no clue as to how to parent Billy. He didn’t know the first step when it came to parenting, but throughout the story you could understand how much he progressed when it came to being a father to Billy. In my opinion, I feel that he did a great job. Although we couldn’t really tell how good of a parent Joanna was since she wasn’t in the movie very much, I know that Ted was a very good father just as Joanna was a mother. Throughout the movie he definitely proved himself as a father, and even in his words he admitted, “I’m not a perfect parent. I don’t have enough patience. I forget he’s just a little kid. But then I get up in the morning. And we eat breakfast, and he talks to me. And we go to school, and at night we eat dinner together, and we talk then and I read to him. And we built a life together and we love each other.” The first step to becoming a good parent is admitting that you’re not perfect because building a relationship with your child is not easy, and that’s exactly what Ted did. Because he learned from his mistakes, it showed how much of a good parent he truly is. Since he realized the mistakes he made in the beginning and even throughout the movie when building the relationship with Billy it allowed him to understand how to take care of child and what it takes to take care of another living being. Not only that, but it allowed him to realize what Joanna went through when he wasn't there. Ted grew an appreciation and respect as to what his wife had to go through when he wasn't there for her or Billy. Overall, based on the evidence from the movie Ted Kramer had a rough start, but proved to be the best father he could be.
