In my opinion, no Joanna Kramer does not deserve custody (full custody) of her son, Billy. I dont think that just because the mother is the mother directly means that she gets full custody of the child. That not only isn't fair to the father, but the child loses their male model. In the case of Kramer vs. Kramer especially, I do not understand why the father would not get custody of Billy. First of all, Joanna left them completely and totally for almost 2 years. In that time Billy and his father created a special bond and had made a life together. When Joanna suddenly came back into their lives, she had no right to break up the relationship that they had formed. It is selfish and rude to think that if you abandon your child you have he right to take them back whenever you please because that hurts everyone involved besides you. In a perfect world, the parents wouldn't be concerned with who gets custody because of their own opinions, but would care about how the child would feel about it, and what was right for them. This basically happened in the movie because Joanna realized that to take Billy "home" would actually be taking him away from his home.
