Shallow Hal Post 1-- Caitlin Boer

How does Hal transform?

At the beginning of the movie Hal is very shallow and superficial in how he views women. Over the course of the movie Hal learns a lot about himself and what he really wants in a women. At the end of the movie Hal realizes that looks aren't everything in a relationship or in love. By meeting, and falling for, Rosemary, Hal learns how to love a women for her personality, and the person she is on the inside. Before the spell on Hal is removed, he sees Rosemary's inner beauty, which projects her as a gorgeous women. This inner beauty is what Hal falls for. Hal thought he wanted a girl only based on what she looked like on the outside, but the connection he found with Rosemary showed him that he could have more than just a physical connection with a women. Hal and Rosemary had things in common and had fun together, and Hal found himself attracted to Rosemary for more than just her looks. She was kind, intelligent, compassionate, and funny, and Hal realized that these things combined were just as important if not more than Rosemary's looks. I believe that Hal learns that beauty isn't just what's on the outside. He learns to love Rosemary and see as beautiful, because of her inner beauty. Hal learns to look beyond the physical, and really get to know people, especially, women for who they are not what they look like.
