Emma Bird Shallow Hal Period 9
Is Hal a Man or a Mouse When it Comes to
Romance? In the beginning of the movie Hal is definitely a mouse. He only cares
about how a women looks. Hal only looks at the outside of a woman not the
inside. Personality means nothing to Hal, he would be fine if he dated a woman
with no personality as long as she was hot. Even in the beginning when he first
started dating Rosemary he only liked her for how he thought she looked. It
wasn’t until later in the movie that he realized that she was actually a very
good person. In the end Hal transformed from a mouse into a man. Even when he
realized what Rosemary actually looked like he still loved her. In the
beginning of the movie if someone who looked like Rosemary came up to Hal he
would immediately push her to the side. But then Hal realizes that it doesn’t
matter what’s on the outside that it’s the inside that counts. He is able to
win Rosemary back because he is no longer a mouse but a man.
Rosemary’s self-image and how it develops as the
film progresses. Rosemary has very low self-esteem at the beginning of the
movie. Like when Hal continues to complement her she doesn’t believe him. She
thinks he’s making fun of her. She doesn’t think there is anyway for a guy to
love her. But as the movie progresses her self-image increases. She becomes a
little more excepting of Hal’s complements and starts to actually believe him.
Rosemary grows much more confidant. If I were Rosemary’s friend I would tell
her to remember that its what’s on the inside that counts, that she is
beautiful and that it’s society that’s ugly. I’d tell her to never settle for
less than she deserves and she deserves the world. Rosemary is a wonderful
person inside and out and I’m so happy that she finally realized it.
