Andrea Guy & Annie Smith

I believe that Ted did a fantastic job of taking care of his son by himself. At first he was new to taking care of Billy so I was a bit challenging at times, for example he didn’t because he was always busy with work. He became a responsible father throughout the film, he started to show more love for him and he missed a lot of work because he was being a parent which was showed throughout the movie of his love for Billy. He spent a lot of time with him also, they spent time at the park and he read to him each night before he went to bed. They started to grow together. They made breakfast every morning together, and Billy told of the things that he was and wasn’t supposed to buy when they went shopping.

In many cases when couples are getting divorces the mother gets the child most of the time. In my opinion I do not think that Joanna Kramer should’ve gotten custody of Billy. I understand that she loves him and that she was the one that took care of him for most of his life but she abandoned him. She left without say goodbye, I’m not saying that she should say to him that “I don’t want to be with your father anymore because I’m not happy”, but I truly believe that she could have said something to him. Also, everything that Ted told her confidentially she used in the court against him which I didn’t think was fair because it doesn’t change the fact that Ted would’ve been a better parent for Billy. For example when Bill fell and hurt his head at the park, it was not Ted’s fault. Each child has a childhood scar. She used the fact that he told her against him in court.

Partner Question
In the movie Kramer VS Kramer, I believe that Ted Kramer could have been a much better father and a husband to Billy and Joanna. He should have been working with Joanna from the beginning of their marriage. For example in the movie she explained that he didn’t listen to what she had to say or valued her opinions.  Also, he should’ve spent or time with both of them so that he could know them better.  On the first day that he brought Billy to school because Joanna had left he didn’t even know how old he was or what grade he was in, and I believe that, that is a very bad reputation to have as a father. I think that Red should’ve had full custody of Billy, because even though he didn’t know his son before his wife left, he got to know his son, and eventually they had a very loving and caring connection.  For example Joanna left her son for two years, and I understand that he’s a small kid but she left for two years without a word, and when she returned she said that she wants custody of her son, when in all that time her husband was taking care of their son.
