Marley Marriott, period 9: Shallow Hal
Rosemary suffers from repeated attacks at her weight. After years and years of being overweight, and having people look at her as some kind of animal, she doesn’t have any self-esteem. Even ewhen Hal calls her beautiful, she tells him to stop because she doesn’t believe that she pretty at all. She has such a good character and is so sweet and does many good things for other people but most people just see her for her outside traits and not her inside one. When Hal begins to make Rosemary feel that she is worth something, she begins to feel more confident. All Rosemary needed was for someone to love her for the way that she was.
In the beginning of the movie Hal is a mouse because he only looks at women for their looks. He thinks that they should only be attractive on the outside and that their personalities don’t matter. Hal also goes for women that are out of his league. He is shallow, and those women see that. When Hal meets Rosemary, he still sees her for only her looks and how beautiful he thinks she is, but throughout their time dating he begins to see her for her personality and falls in love with her. Even when he sees the real her he is still fixated on her because of her inner beauty and that is truly when he becomes a man when it comes to love.
