Is Hal a man or a mouse when it comes to romance?
I believe that in the beginning of the movie Hal is a mouse. He takes the easy way out by objectifying the women he sees and not taking the time to try to get to know them for who they are. By only focusing on women's looks Hal doesn't take the chance of growing to love someone and then losing them. He is subconsciously protecting himself from heartbreak, but if he never takes a chance he'll never fall in love. Once Hal realizes that to find love he has to look at a women's inner beauty, he finds that he is in love with Rosemary. Once he realizes this about love he becomes a man, because he then goes to Rosemary, apologizes, and explains what he's learned about love. Hal finally gets up the courage to lay his feelings on the line and take a chance on his relationship with Rosemary, this is when he becomes a man. He becomes a man not only because of his actions, but also because of what he's learned about love, relationships, and beauty. He believes that Rosemary is beautiful, because he's finally able to look beyond appearances and see her inner beauty and the person she is inside.
