Mothers get custody of children when they divorce most of the time. Does Jenna Kramer deserve custody or her son, in your opinion?
In today’s society in custody battles over children, the court usually rules in favor of the mother. Even if the mother is not necessarily suited to take care of her child, the court feels that she has more rights over her child than the father. I do not believer that Joanna Kramer deserves custody over her six-year-old son Billy. She may not have had a good relationship with her husband, but that did not give her the right to walk out of her son’s life. As a mother she has to think about what is best for her son, not what is best for her. She had no right to come back to the city after about two years of leaving her son alone and not making an effort to stay in his life, and expect to get full custody of him. In the court she says that she loves her son and that he needs his mother. But she should have thought about that before she walked out on him, if she truly believes that Billy needed his mother then she should not have walked out in the first place. She seems emotionally unstable because she is constantly crying when it comes to Billy. She says that she has found herself but she still seems to be falling apart. This is not a quality that a mother should have, because it would just negatively impact her son. I do not believe that Jenna Kramer deserved custody over Billy, and she did the right thing by letting him stay with his father.
What did you think of the job that Ted did taking care of Billy by himself?
I believe that Ted Kramer took care of Billy to the best of his abilities. At the beginning he may not have been the best father but as the movie progressed you could tell that he loved his son and he was trying his best to be there for him. Joanna Kramer was the parent who mainly took care of Billy while Ted was working. Ted was around his son, but he never had experience completely taking care of him. At moments he seemed stressed and overwhelmed and did not pay much attention to Billy, but this is reasonable because he is hurting and trying to quickly adjust his life to the changes. Considering the fact that Joanna just left without a warning, Ted did a great job quickly learning and adjusting to having to take care of Billy. He had to figure out how to juggle his time consuming job and taking care of his son. But evidently you can tell that Ted loves his son and is trying his best to give Billy the care and attention that he needs.
