I do believe there were things prior to Joanna's leaving that Ted could have done better. One being that Ted worked so much that by the time he returned home at night he was "checked out", he was over-working himself to the point where he did not have time for his family. Now I see where Ted was coming from with this, he was trying the complete his manly duty, he was trying to provide for his family, he was "bringing home the bacon". I do believe that Ted is worthy of custody of Billy, because even though the relationship crumbled and his wife left him, he rose above that and took care of Billy, and in that he found himself, and found a new source of happiness, rather than working all day long.

Kramer Vs. Kramer - Zach "Fearless Leader" Husain
In my opinion Joanna Kramer had no right to Billy, no right whatsoever, mother or not. I believe this for a couple reasons, one being that any half decent mother that loves her son, does not abandon her son without saying anything, and just got M.I.A. for a year and a half. Another reason I feel that she should not have custody of her son is because she has never really committed to any relationship in her life on a permanent basis. Who is to say that when life starts to get stressful again for her and shit hits the fan, that she won't just walk out on Billy again, and now Ted will not be there to pick up the pieces. I also feel that Joanna is not worthy of custody because of how good of a job Ted is doing, at first he struggled as a single parent, but who wouldn't, he rose above the adversity, and him and Billy have grown closer, and developed an unbreakable chemistry.
