At the beginning of the film Hal was a man never really thought too deeply about anything. He had no idea who he really was. All that Hal cared about were the way other people looked and it never went deeper than that. This changed when he met a guru who put Hal under a spell. It forced Hal to only see the way people looked on the inside. Soon after he met Rosemary and had a meaningful relationship for the first time in his life. This relationship changed him and the way he thought. Even when the spell came off, he was still able to think about the world more deeply. Hal was madly in love and had come to understand that physical beauty didn’t matter. His transformation made him into a better man and positively affected everyone around him

Ilise Rosen; Shallow Hal 1

Knowing what I know about myself today, I think that I am someone who follows their head. While I am impulsive at times, I tend to make decisions and try to stick to them. I am more interested in the rational or scientific explanation of things than the instinctive explanation. I have never been in a relationship but I would prefer if the person was smart and nice than gorgeous. This applies to Hal’s decision at the end of the movie because of the implications it makes about his personal growth. He had been blind to what people were like on the inside and only noticed the superficial. After he was put under the spell by the guru, he started to think with his brain and really see people for who they were. When he met Rosemary that changed again and he learned to think with his heart. When he makes the decision at the end of the movie regarding Rosemary it is Hal’s heart that is speaking.Ilise Rosen; Kramer vs. Kramer
I think that he did a good job takeing care of Billy overall. At the beginning he struggled with what it meant to be a dad and as the film went on he figured it out. In order to do a good job taking care of a child you have to realize that they depend on you and that for them to be happy it requires effort. Ted had never been a stay at home dad, so it was hard for him to balance his high profile job with taking care of Billy. Eventually Ted had to decide which he cared more about, his job or his son. When Ted chose Billy over his job, it was obvious that he had become a good father. Because of the dedacation that Ted showed once he understood what being a father meant, I think that he did a good job taking care of Billy.
