Molly Sevcik Shallow Hal Post 2

Question 1: I think that I am a person that follows both my head and my heart. It really depends on the situation. With academics, I know that I want to study either history or film, because these are the topics that really interest me. However, I know that it is very difficult to get a job in these two fields. So, my plan is to study what really interests me for my undergraduate education, and then buckle down and get a degree in something like Communications or Marketing for my graduate degree. This shows that I follow my heart whenever I can, but I listen to the realistic voice of my head when it comes to real issues. I firmly believe in compromise. Hal changes from following his head to following his heart completely. in the beginning of the movie he chooses his women through logic and looks only, which shows he is only thinking with his head. Then, as his relationship with Rosemary blossoms, he realizes that you should determine love through your heart. I respect this, because it shows a change in his personality and makes him spontaneous and empathetic. He decides to put his career on the line and move to a foreign country with Rosemary purely out of love for her. This idea seems so foreign to me, because I am not a spontaneous person at all. Personally, if I was put in this situation, I would go and visit "Rosemary" as much I could but not live there completely. This again shows my principle of compromise. With compromise, you can't go wrong, and you get the perfect balance of realism and idealism.
