Self Image: Shallow Hal - Bryanna Adams

When Hal first meets Rosemary and sees her for everything she is on the inside, he believes that she is nothing less than flawless. Every time he would tell her that she’s pretty, or gorgeous, or beautiful, she would kind of laugh it off and say “stop saying that.” At one point she confronts Hal and says “if this is some kind of joke to you, its not funny,” and she asks him not to call her pretty. He thinks she’s crazy, of course, because he she’s her for the women inside.

If Rosemary was my friend, I would tell her to be more confident and I would proabably compliment just as much as Hal does. There are other things that can be complimented besides beauty and the definition of beauty is not skinny. Beauty can be internal. You can’t love other people without first learning to love yourself. I feel that if Rosemary had more self-assurance and love for herself, she would more successful in relationships. Because she sees herself the world sees her, she has no confidence. Let me tell you, confidence goes a loooong way. There are people in the world who aren’t very physically attractive, but because they love themselves, other people love them. As a woman, Rosemary is wonderful all around but she needs to see that.
