Tina Nezic - Shallow Hal: Question #2

In the beginning of Shallow Hal, Hal was one of the shallowest men you could ever meet. A woman’s personality was far from what he wanted in a woman. He expected high standards from woman, meaning he expected someone who just came off a runway show looking like perfection. It wasn’t bad for Hal to have high standards and specifications because in reality everyone has their own opinion of what they want in a woman/man, but he completely excluded all other woman not giving them a chance just because of their outer appearance. When he first met Rosemary the first thing he noticed was obviously the outer appearance, but when he began to spend more time and listen to her he began to understand the true meaning of a woman. Hal didn’t just love Rosemary anymore for her looks, but for her as a human being. I personally think that this was for the better of Hal. Even after he saw the “true Rosemary” he became a completely different person and was far from shallow. In his eyes she was a beautiful being even if others thought differently. Hal came to a realization that looks is not what makes a woman beautiful, it’s what a woman gives from her heart. In other words, the inside of a woman is what brings out her beauty, and that’s what Hal finally understood at the end of the movie.
