Joanna does not deserve custody of her son because....she
left her son. She left her son knowing that her son loves her with all his
heart, knowing that she was the only mother he knew, the one mother who he
would wake up to, the one mother who would make him breakfast, bring him to
school, and read him stories at night. The fact that she left her son because
she felt she lost who she was a very selfish move towards Billy. Did she ever
think that leaving her son, that her son would also lose a part of himself. A
mother and a father should be in their child’s life every single day of their
life. I understand she lost the love between her and Ted and that she wanted a
divorce but also leaving her child for 18 months, with nothing to say when she
would be back or even if she was even coming back is very hurtful. She had a child,
which means she has responsibilities for that child and she clearly failed her
son. So she gets custody, what if she suddenly loses herself again and wants to
go find who she was and find something new in life. The person who is going to
pay the price is Billy once again. Joanna lost all trust once she walked out of
her home that night that she was fit to take care of a child, because if she
was fit to care for Billy he would not have been so confused when
"mommy" was not home for so long. Billy would not have been crying
when Ted was reading the post card she sent home if she was a fit mother and deserved to have custody of
Billy.
