Personally, I think that Ted Kramer could have done a better job taking care of Billy when he first started, but he did not really understand how to since Joanna took care of him his entire life. After learning how to take care of his son, and learning about him, he definitely connected with Billy and soon became a great father to him. Nobody is perfect, parents aren't even close, but the fact that Ted tried his hardest to keep Billy after his mother abandoned him without even looking back, I would say that Ted is an A plus parent for filling in so quickly. They both got attached to each other and were sad when they realized that Joanna was getting custody of Billy. You can't put your child in a situation like this without some heartbreak in the end. I think they were both bad parents when they did that. Billy was too young and innocent to put in a situation where his parents were separated and is only going to see one of them for small periods of time.
