Hal is a strange character.
Obviously there isn’t very much depth to him at the beginning of the movie. All
he looks for is beauty because that’s what his father told him to do on his
death bed. He probably would have turned out differently if this hadn’t
happened to him. But it’s not irrational to live by your father’s dying words
like it’s the bible. But because of this spell that was cast over him he changed.
At first I didn’t understand how it changed him, because he thought he was just
picking up really hot girls, not girls with great personalities. But after
meeting Rosemary even if he thought she was very attractive he fell for her

I agree with you. Now that I think about it, it's kind of ironic that Hal, even though he's 'changed', looks for the same thing - beauty. It takes a long time for him to actually change, even with the spell it takes a while before he understands the relevance of inner beauty.
