In order for Ted Kramer to have been a better husband, he should have come into the marriage with the same expectations for Joanna as she had for herself. She was a working, independent woman who chose to be a married mother, however, being a married mother does not necessitate being a stay-at-home mom. Ted Kramer was expected her to cook, clean, devote every minute to their son, and be available to him when he had the time for her. He was not wrong to expect that, but he was wrong to force those expectations upon Joanna. On top of the source of her unhappiness in their relationship, he refused to listen to her when she attempted to express herself to him. Communication is one of the most important things in a relationship, especially a marriage. Their marriage was unhealthy at the fault of Ted, but he definitely deserves custody of his son. Although Ted expected Joanna to take full everyday care of Billy while he took financial care of them all, upon Joanna's desertion, he became a fantastic father. It started out rough between Ted and Billy, but that's normal for a typical little boy and a man who's never had to deal with a child as consistently and attentively. But with time and patience, Ted became a fully devoted father who did everything he could to make things as beneficial for Billy as possible.Ted made sure to read to Billy every night and took him to the park to make sure he had time to let out his energy. In the absence of Joanna, everything Ted did was for Billy. Tuesday, November 13, 2012
