In the beginning of the film Hal was a shallow, self-centered, man that only cared about what women looked like. He was in a blind quest for any attractive pair of legs that he could get his hands on. Hal got a spell put on him that allowed him to see people for their true selves regardless of the way they look, and that led to a huge change in his personality. Eventually he found his love Rosemary, and though she would be typically overlooked because of her appearance Hal saw her true beauty and fell in love with her. The change overall was good for Hal because he found someone he loved for who they are and not for the way they look.
