Joanna is justified in leaving Billy and Ted, she needed to retreat from her cyclic life to regroup herself. The life she had at home maintaining the household, taking care of Billy, and keeping her husband, Ted, happy wore her out. Then that she sacrificed the career she could’ve had to be at home all time made it worse, she didn’t know anything other than home, home, home. She felt lost and swallowed up by life. She needed to get out. Even though she had a kid and it is a responsibility as a parent to take of it, her leave was justified. Just like in some work places where you can take mental days and in court where they may check your mental health if it pertains to the case, her leave was justified.
