I think Ted did a great job on taking care of Billy. After Joanna leave him and Billy, it means Ted need to take care of Billy by himself. At first he didn't know how to deal with Billy, because he never try to take care of a child. He messed up the breakfast he made, he needed Billy to wake him up in the morning, and he was mad when Billy didn't listen to him. but after it, he grew and Billy grew, too. He started to know that being a child's parent isn't easy, and what Joanna did for him was easy at all, and Billy started to know the burdens on Ted, and started to listen and obey Ted as a father. They started to work together, and Ted start to love one another. and they have a very good relationship until the end of the movie.
