Kramer VS Kramer - Tina Nezic (Blog Post 2)
In my opinion, I believe that Joanna Kramer does not deserve custody of her son. Yes, a child does need a mother’s unconditional love and I understand that there’s no stronger bond than between a mother and her child, but if a mother such as Joanna can leave her own blood, someone that she has given life too, then she does not deserve to get her child back at all. If she had the audacity to just leave her child then she can live with the fact that she won’t have custody of him either. If she was a true mother she’d put her issues aside just for her son no matter how tough her issues were with her husband. A true mother wouldn’t just walk away from her child just because she is dealing with problems that could be fixed eventually over time if she knew how to work it out. I believe that Joanna could have found a way to work out her problems with Ted and not leave her child, but she decided to take the easy route by leaving. In the words of Ted Kramer, “what law is it that says a woman is a better parent simply by virtue of her sex?” Based on the evidence I’ve seen throughout Kramer .vs. Kramer, Joanna Kramer does not have the right to earn custody of Billy just because of the fact that she is a women/mother.
