Molly Sevcik Kramer vs. Kramer Post 1

I personally think that Ted Kramer did a great job of raising Billy, simply because he changed his egocentric lifestyle and put his son's needs before his own. In my opinion, this is the definition of a good parent. An effective parent must come second before his or her child, because the child is relying on the parent for guidance and support. In the beginning of the movie, Ted was only was concerned about his career, which had a damaging impact on both his marriage and his son. Then, in order to raise Billy to the best of his abilities, Ted sacrificed his important job to spend time with his son. This shows compromise, compassion, and Ted's devotion to his only child. It is unfortunate that it took seven years for Ted to realize his passion for his son, but nonetheless he discovered his calling. Two scenes that show Ted's growth as a father is the french toast sequence. In one of the first scenes in the movie, Billy is frustrated because his father can't make him his favorite breakfast meal. Ted becomes frustrated as well, because he is suddenly aware of his lack of knowledge of how to raise his son. It is an emotional and traumatic scene, and this consequently makes Ted change his ways and learn the ropes of parenthood. Then, in one of the last scenes of the film, Ted and Billy work together to make french toast on their last morning together. It is sentimental due to the fact that the audience has watched Ted grow as a father and friend to his son. Overall, Ted made the decision to put his career aside and focus all of his attention on his son, which made him a caring and responsible parent in the movie.
